For the past 8 weeks, I have worked hard to turn our drab formal den into a cozy entertaining area for us and our guests when we’re able to fully entertain again.  If you’re just now starting this series, read posts post 1, post 2, and post 3 to catch up.

The Goal

We moved into our home four years ago and the den was the final room to be furnished.  We could never figure out what we wanted to do with it until the beginning of this year.  I had the pleasure of partnering with Birch Lane to bring my cozy guest entertaining home decor vision to life!

This post is sponsored by Birch Lane.  All opinions are my own.  For more information, see my disclosures here.

Our den became the catch-all.  At times it was the overflow for my home decor, it was sometimes used as the area we served food when we entertained, and sometimes it was just an empty room with a bar cart, an elephant picture, and a chair or two.

Den Room Makeover

The Work

This is the biggest makeover I’ve done with one of the rooms in our home, it had a long to-do list.

  1. Decide on room purpose and what I want to do
  2. Create moodboard
  3. Find fabric for the chairs
  4. Reupholster the chairs
  5. Decide and purchase a bar
  6. Decide and purchase a shelf or cabinet
  7. Decide and purchase a side table
  8. Purchase parts for Singer sewing machine

The biggest project was #4, reupholstering 4 chairs and this was my first time.  You can read about that project here.

After a long search, which I mentioned in the first post of this series, we decided on the Feldt Bar with Wine Storage.  Y’all, this wine storage is even better in person!  It was such a hard decision because Birch Lane has some beautiful bars and wine storage that you can find here.

It arrived in one large box and E and I put it together in a couple of evenings.  It’s perfect for my wine (18 bottles) and it also holds several bottles of liquor as well as wine glasses and accessories, such as decanters, shakers, and ice buckets.  It also comes with a cabinet door, but we decided to not add the door.

We were able to find a cabinet and end tables as well!

Time For the Big Reveal

So it’s finally time for the big reveal, friends!

I love all of the colors in this room and how they came together!  The Feldt Bar with Wine Storage fits perfectly in this room, don’t you think?  I love that because it is bar height, when we have guests we can move the bar up a bit and serve our guests!  We’ve also talked about moving the large green chairs and the end table over a bit to add 2 high bar stools.

Since the rug has a lighter color to it and I wanted to bring that color out more, I took these 2 chairs from our bedroom and they worked perfectly in this space.  I will use the other 2 reupholstered chairs in the living room.

When I was searching for fabric for the chairs, I was a bit nervous at first about having the front of the chairs a different color and pattern than the back of the chairs, but I quickly got over that nervous feeling when I placed them in the room with the rug.

All of the colors, even though there are a few different patterns, work so well together and I couldn’t be more pleased!

So friend, what do you think?
