Most people make New Year’s Resolutions and never complete them and they are really just thoughts and ideas of what you will focus on or change in the year. But, with most resolutions, they are forgotten by March and it’s on to the next thing. I’ve never been one to make New Year’s Resolutions because I’ve always thought, “What is any different from the first of the year compared to the Summer?” In comes Lara Casey and her Powersheets.
You may know Lara Casey from her inspirational blog, Southern Weddings Magazine, and Cultivate What Matters. Powersheets are goal setting without the ickiness of goal setting. I’d heard of Powersheets for quite awhile but hadn’t really looked into them until this summer. I purchased the undated version, and let the binder sit…and sit. We’ve had so much going on and I think deep down inside Powersheets were the real deal and were going to make me do the work. I mean the real deep down inside work-the stuff you really don’t want to deal with and try to ignore. If you don’t want to do the real work, Powersheets are not for you!
Before you can even begin working on your goals, you begin with the inner work; fears, what you truly want, and why you don’t have it/what’s keeping you from it having it. Who wants to dig up all that gunk you don;t want to focus on or deal with? It’s the best thing ever I’m here to tell y’all!
All goals are focused on what matters and in my opinion, what matters isn’t the “stuff” you can buy. It’s what is intangible. And that is what Lara Casey makes you focus on; the intangible stuff that you can’t buy or hold in your hand. And that my friend, is what truly matters; faith, family, friends, and love, at least to me!
In the Powersheets, you have to choose a word and I chose faith. I had a few words such as relationships and love, but as I thought about it, all of those will come as my faith strengthens. Steve Harvey has a quote, “If you pray about it, don’t worry about it. If you’re going to worry about it, don’t pray about it.” I have learned over the years that worrying gets you absolutely, nowhere! Worrying doesn’t change the situation and it doesn’t make things better. All worrying does is to give you gray hairs, stress you out, and make you grouchy! If you do your part and take action, leave the rest up to God and go on about your way.
Steve Harvey hit the nail on the head when he said,
I have learned over the years that worrying gets you absolutely, nowhere! Worrying doesn’t change the situation and it doesn’t make things better. All worrying does is to give you gray hairs, stress you out, and make you grouchy! If you do your part and take action, leave the rest up to God and go on about your way. I like to have control and so for me, this has been one of the greatest lessons I am learning and continue to learn because if there is one thing I know and continue to learn on my faith journey, it’s that everything is in God’s time, not mine. What he has for me is always better than what I could ever imagine for myself and if I just get out of his way, I can have it!
With Powersheets you set goals, but they are goals for what matters. My big goals are:
- Getting closer to God
- Strengthening my faith
- Stop worrying
- Building closer relationships so that all 3 of my sisters and I are super duper close
There is a wonder section called relationship tending and what fires me up, which I absolutely adore!
The relationships I want to tend to are:
- E (having and building a stronger relationship with my soon to be husband is always a good thing!)
- Stephanie (one of my sisters)
One of the many things I love about our new house is that I can grab my Powersheets binder, sit on my covered porch and work on my goals! Being my favorite huge, fluffy, denim skirt while I curl up on the bench on our covered porch is such a wonderful way to relax and have some quiet time and relax!
Do you use Powersheets? If so, what are your goals? Share below and we can keep each other accountable!
