Here we are on week 2 of my home office makeover! In case you missed last week’s post, you can read about my ideas and plans for my home office to finally finish this room! This week is all about paint color choices and the accent wall.
For the past week, I’ve been shopping, sanding, and painting. But, I followed my own rules from my about decor shopping and found some really great pieces and saved some money! I think this by far is my favorite of all of my DIY Home Decor projects and I believe it’s because there is so much color and I don’t need to consult with E on anything. I can just run wild and let my creative juices flow!
After much debate and search, I found the colors closest to what I was looking for with the gold, orange, and pink. I used Behr paint colors. The gold ended up being a custom blend so there isn’t’ an exact color name, but the closest I found to what the guys custom made for me at Home Depot is Leapfrog.
As I mentioned in my How to Prep a Room Before Painting, remember that paint looks different on your monitor, on the paper color swatch, in the bucket, and on your walls so always buy a sample to paint on your wall so you can see what it’s really going to look like. Also, look at the color during different times of the day, morning, afternoon, and night.
The gray color we have on the main floor of our house looks different depending on the time of day. No matter the shade it looks, we love the color so make sure to test so you love your color!
Please note: Colors may appear different due to your monitor or mobile device color settings.
The orange color is called Inferno and the pink color is called Diva Glam. I was a little hesitant about the Diva Glam color because in the paint can, it honestly looks like the color of Pepto Bismol! As I always say, colors look different on paper, in the paint can, and on your walls. All 3 colors are bold and bright and the Diva Glam looked great on the wall!
I knew I wanted an accent wall and my first thought was to paint it the Diva Glam color, but then I thought, “That’s boring. I want something different, something that’s going to bring the wall to life.” After mulling it over, I decided to go geometric! The accent wall in my office would be a wall of squares. What fun!
Let me tell you right now…that wall was WORK! But, it was definitely worth it. To figure it all out I,
- Decided how large I wanted my squares to be, measured the wall and calculated how many squares that would equal to
- Painted the wall the main color one day
- Used my laser level and drew the lines horizontally and vertically
- Grabbed my Painter’s Tape and taped over those lines
- Painted each individual square which ended up being a total of 50 squares
Y’all all I can say is that it turned out better than I imagined! I can’t wait for you to see everything in a couple of weeks for the reveal!
In my previous post, How to Make Your Home Decor Shopping Faster, Easier, and Less Expensive, I talk about using what you already have. I mean do you really want to spend money if you don’t have to? I know I don’t!
I had this Ikea shelf in my closet, which I didn’t like there. It was too big and bulky and just looked awkward. Now this shelf wasn’t going to work in my office either. It doesn’t match the decor I have in mind at all. Y’all there is nothing bright and vibrant about that shelf…nothing. But! Thank goodness for paint! I painted the shelf with the Diva Glam paint I used on the accent wall and can I just say that shelf came to life! This is why I love to paint so much! It’s an inexpensive way to decorate and completely transform a room or a decor piece.
Here’s a sneak peek of the DIY project I created on my wall. I’ll share more details about this wood picture frame and some of my other DIY projects next week!
