In just a few days, 2017 will come to a close. I can’t believe the year has flown by, can you? My head was so buried in wedding plans and DIY projects, I feel like I missed a lot of it and with good reason! Even though we’ve made a lot of progress with our home, we still have such a long way to go. Sometimes I walk around the house feeling overwhelmed because there are so many things I want to do and when I look around the house as a whole, it seems nothing has been done. Do you ever feel like that with your home? Surely I’m not the only one? 🙈
With only a couple of weeks left of 2017, I thought I’d share some of what we’ve accomplished so far with our home this year. Now I knew when we bought this house, it was going to be a huge undertaking, especially with both of us having a full-time job and trying to plan our wedding in another country. What was I thinking?? We really didn’t get a good start on the house until the Summer after the wedding was over.
There is only a hand full of rooms in this entire house that are completely done. 😫 I know I have to have patience. It’s a lot of house and it’s going to take some time!
We painted the entire first-floor gray. We used a Behr color called Dark Pewter. I love this color because it’s so calming and depending on the time of day, sometimes it looks blue even though it’s a gray color. I always say our house is a blue-gray.

The First Floor
The only thing we’ve accomplished in this room is painting. We’re going to make our dining room table, but that won’t be finished until Spring of 2018. Once the cold weather hit, we put all major DIY projects on hold until the weather warms up again. This is why I need to move to Florida or back to Houston so I can work on my projects year ’round! Hahaha

As much as I’m in the kitchen, I have to say that the kitchen in our house almost made me NOT want to buy this house. It’s too small and a bit dated in my opinion, with a very odd layout and not enough cabinet space. Can you tell it’s not my favorite place in the house? For now, it will do, but I see renovations in my future, that’s for sure!
So far we’ve painted the room, added a stone backsplash, which I love, and I just finished our coffee bar area last weekend. Have you ever noticed that there is never a piece of paper when you need it in the kitchen or you run out of something and need to write it down so you can get it on the next grocery run? I added a chalkboard panel to our pantry door and it sure has come in handy!

The one feature of this house that truly sold me was the fireplace. Our fireplace brings so much character to this home, it’s amazing! I love the stone and it’s so fun to decorate! We painted this room and we made some amazing decor pieces. We made 2 wine racks out of wood pallets and we also made our coffee table! These were some pretty intense projects, but it was so worth it!

Laundry is one of my least favorite things to do. If you know how I can make laundry more pleasant and exciting, please let a gal know! This poor room was so neglected. If you’re going to have to do something you aren’t too excited about, I think the surroundings you have to d it in should be pleasant, don’t you?

MY HOME OFFICE
I’ve always wanted a room that was just mine as a hideaway from everything else. A room that when I stepped into it, it would wash away all the stress and just be my happy place. In our house, I have that!
It took awhile for me to decide what I wanted in a room like that, but I knew I wanted to have bright colors and bright colors are just what I ended up with! I even added a seating area so I can just curl up with a good book and read my Bible or just a good ‘ole fashioned non-fiction book, or magazine.
