Monday Morning Color Watch #1

I’m often asked about colors palettes for the home and for websites and so I decided to create a series of colors that I hope will inspire you to find colors for your home or blog!  Colors are very important when it comes to your home and DIY home decor projects; they can make or break a room!  This color palette for home and websites was inspired by the master bedroom in our home which we’re still working on.

Color palette for home

  • Left: Light gray (hexadecimal code: #f0f0f0)
  • Center: Burgandy (hexadecimal code: #6d213c)
  • Right: Rose Pink (hexadecimal code: #da9f93)

Using this color palette for home

The decor word for our bathroom was an escape.  I wanted the master bedroom and bathroom to be an escape when we come home.  That meant color choices were going to be soft pastels and there would also be an influence of nature in our spa bathroom as well!

The colors are a soft gray, a rose pink, and a burgundy pink for a sharp contrast.  I always like my contrast colors to be drastic.  When looking for contrast, remember that you don’t have to just stick with contrasting colors; you can also use textures.  I can’t believe it, but wallpaper has made its way back into the game and this is a great way to give that look of texture.  You can also use rugs, towels, and other decorative pieces.

Using this color palette for blogs

Pastel colors aren’t  bad for a website, but remember that pastels are very difficult to see.  When choosing any colors for your website, always think mobile first!  Websites are accessed using a mobile device more than a desktop.  Remember when mobile devices were getting smaller and smaller?  Well, things quickly change in the technology world and mobile devices are getting larger and larger.  Why?  Because not only do we use them to talk, but also to watch TV, movies, and give presentations.

If you chose to use this color scheme for your blog, the burgundy color should be the primary color with the rose pink and light gray as the accent colors.  Can you imagine how hard it would be to read the text in the rose or gray color?

How would you use these colors in your home or your blog?  I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments below!

See ya later!

I love this palette and totally agree that for a blog, it might be a little too difficult to navigate. I do see this in a guest bedroom though, subtle elegance. Love it.

I hadn’t thought about color palettes in terms of my blog. This is a great reminder to make sure everything is cohesive. Love the light grey!

    • Lynn 05/24/2017, 2:54 PM

Yes, it’s always good to keep things consistent, especially for brand recognition. Thanks, Marcie!

Burgundy is the color of one of our guest room. I consider it a classic elegance. I also used it as an accent wall (one side) in one of the room. For blogs, it can be used as a font for highlights, the pastel as the background for contrast.

    • Lynn 05/24/2017, 2:53 PM

Oh, I bet that burgundy in the rooms is so pretty! Definitely, agree with you on how to use these colors for a blog. Thanks for visiting Jane!

  • Kari 05/23/2017, 10:30 PM

I love that you mention using a color pallet for home and blogs. I have teal all throughout my home and my blog currently. I’m moving this month though and the new house will have yellows and reds. I’ve been debating on updating the blog too.

    • Lynn 05/24/2017, 8:05 AM

Good luck with the move, Kari! Yellows and reds sound so happy. I love bold, cheerful colors. I definitely believe in having a color palette for your blog. It keeps things cohesive and can be used across all platforms, not just your blog for easy recognition.

      Thanks, Sarah!

  • Danielle G 05/25/2017, 11:48 AM

I actually have this color palette in my built in bookshelves in my office. I saw it in a home magazine. Instead of the gray, I have tan, though. Thanks for more terrific ideas.

    • Lynn 05/25/2017, 1:20 PM

Ooohhhh, I bet that’s so pretty Danielle!

  • Livvy 05/25/2017, 11:55 AM

Totally love these colours. And such a good tip about using texture too I always forget that. Now got the urge to redecorate!

    • Lynn 05/25/2017, 1:20 PM

Yes, using texture really helps to break things up and provides a nice touch!

  • Amanda Appiagyei 05/25/2017, 12:19 PM

Ohh that’s a lovely combo, I definitely think it has relaxing bathroom vibes, and the darker colours would be more forgiving of sticky fingerprints haha!

    • Lynn 05/25/2017, 1:18 PM

Thanks, Amanda! Yes, you’re right about the sticky fingerprints. Hahaha.

  • Christina Snyder 05/25/2017, 2:02 PM

Purple is such a powerful color! I combines the passion of red with the calm of blue to create a noble and luxurious feel.

Value contrast is definitely important when incorporating colors on website or blog. We only have a brief few seconds to catch a viewers eye and convey enough value to keep them there. Color is a great way of doing so!

    • Lynn 05/25/2017, 5:15 PM

Yes, purple is a great color, Christina (it’s in my bathroom). You are so right about colors for your website or blog; one of the many reasons to make sure you know your audience! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  • Zoë 05/25/2017, 3:06 PM

Great minds think alike! I have an incredibly similar palette in my hallway… They are sooo cosy. Looking forward to your next suggestions.

    • Lynn 05/25/2017, 5:12 PM

Yes, these colors do make me want to relax and snuggle up! Thanks, Zoë! There will be a new palette on Monday.

  • Mae B 05/25/2017, 7:42 PM

      Thanks Nicole!
