Hey Y’all!

A few southern facts about me…

Don’t forget your glass of tea!

I’d rather be barefoot.

This sounds like such a cliche, but it really is true.  As a kid and even to this day, I try to walk around barefoot.  To me, it’s just more homey and relaxing than walking around in shoes.  Since I can’t walk around barefoot everywhere, I’ve developed a great love for shoes-if I have to wear them, I might as well wear cute ones!

I make everything from scratch.

I hated bringing my lunch to school every day when I was a kid.  All the cool kids got to buy their lunch and here I was with my lunch box.    Not until I got older did I realize I was the lucky one!  Thanks to my Grandmother and Mom, I learned to make everything the good ‘ole fashioned way!  I think this is the only reason my boyfriend is still around.  🙂

I love impromptu gatherings.

One of the things that annoyed me about DC is it seems everyone schedules everything-even calls to their friends! I can recall many conversations with people saying, “We don’t need to schedule a call.  If you want to talk to me, just pick up the phone.”  It just seemed so odd that you have to “work” your friends into your schedule.  For me, a perfect Saturday is having a friend or 2 drop by and the next thing you know someone is going to the grocery store because we’ve decided to have an impromptu BBQ!

I used to go crawdaddin’ in the backyard.

It rains a lot in Houston.  My parent’s house is on a couple of acres of land after it rained, I would grab a stick from outside, some salt bacon from the fridge (much to my Mother’s dismay), and some string.  I’d plop right down in the mud and hoping to catch something. After my fishing escapades, I’d make a mud pie, grab a peach from the tree, a few blackberries off the vine, a couple of honeysuckles, and have a feast.  And yes, I did actually eat the mud pie (don’t judge me).
