Today is our 3 week anniversary in the house and I have 1 word that describes everything right now. Exhaustion. E and I both took the past 2 days off to move into the house, unpack, get settled, and do some home improvements. I have never been so exhausted! There is not a part of me that doesn’t ache and by last Saturday night, I just collapsed.
This was our plan for the 2 weeks:
- Paint the entire first floor
- Put up the backsplash in the kitchen
- Unpack the first floor
We were wwwwaaayyyy too with that plan (let put a disclaimer on that sentence. I was way too ambitious). We went to E’s favorite store, Home Depot, and purchased the Dark Pewter Behr paint for the entire 1st floor. 2 basket fulls later with 10 gallons of paint, paint rollers, paint brushes, paint thinner, edgers, and tons of other things I’ve never heard of and we were out of there and headed back home.
We’ve had company since we moved in; E’s cousin and family came in town the weekend we moved and E’s brother and nephews came for the week last week. It was so much fun having his brother and nephew’s here. His brother loves cooking as much as I do so we had tons of cooking tips to share. His nephews are the most adorable little guys; they are 10, 7, and 3.
Having company may have slowed us down a bit, but I don’t think it really did. I just think
our my list was too much. Now looking back (like that’s going to do any good), our only goal should have been to paint the first floor. Let me tell ya, the painting process was no joke! We didn’t like any of the paint samples we chose so we went back to the drawing board. We decided we wanted gray, but the 2 shades of Behr paint we chose, weren’t going to work so I got one in the middle called Dark Pewter and it worked out perfectly!
These are the rooms on the first floor we needed to paint:
- Sitting Room
- Dining Room
- Living Room
- Half Bathroom
We are not painting connoisseurs, but I thought painting 6 rooms in 2 weeks was definitely doable. Wrong! With painting all of the trim, walls, baseboards, and stairs, it was so much work! I am proud to say we finished everything BUT the trim in the hallway and the half bathroom. We also finished painting the master bedroom and bathroom! Sunday I was good to myself and only washed clothes and set up my office.
Here a few before and after pics of the living room. There are plenty more to come!
We leave on Friday for DC since I’m speaking at a conference so we won’t have time for any home improvements this weekend. E’s Mom is coming next weekend, and then I leave for Houston to visit my family and finally meet my niece. I’m super excited about getting to see her! You can follow me on Instagram to watch the home improvements along the way and follow along on my trip to Houston.
See ya later!
